Excellence in Training from the Pacific

The Port Revel Center recently had the pleasure of welcoming a maritime pilot from New Caledonia for an advanced training course in manned model maneuvering.

Navigating and maneuvering commercial vessels at a 1/25th scale provides one of the most realistic and faithful training experiences in the world, particularly for understanding ship behavior in shallow or restricted waters.

Training Compliant with the Highest International Standards

This course fully aligns with Resolution A.960 of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which recommends manned model training as a key area for maritime pilot development. Recommended for initial training as well as continuous professional development (recurrent training), this experience enables pilots to:

  • Test trajectory management and shallow-water effects under maximum safety conditions.

  • Maintain the highest safety standards to serve ports, vessels, and their crews.

International Exchanges and Institutional Connections

In addition to intense hands-on training on the lake, this session was marked by rich inter-station discussions. The New Caledonian pilot shared operational insights and practices with fellow pilots from Houston (Texas, USA).

Furthermore, alongside this training mission in mainland France, the President of the New Caledonia Maritime Pilotage Station traveled to Paris to meet with the French Maritime Pilots' Federation (FFPM), to which the New Caledonian station is affiliated.
